Our meetup group/community is based on treating all individuals inclusively and respectfully, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, gender identification, physical appearance, body size, age, disability, ethnicity or religion. Treat each other with the utmost respect and we’ll all get along just fine.

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact a meetup organizer or volunteer immediately, or locate someone who can help you find an organizer. Misbehavior will not be tolerated and will be dealt with decisively.

1. Purpose

This code of conduct outlines our expectations for participant behavior at our meetup events, camps, meetup.com website as well as the consequences for unacceptable behavior.

We invite all sponsors, volunteers, speakers, attendees, and other participants to help us realize a safe and positive community experience for everyone.

2. Expected Behavior

Be considerate, respectful, and collaborative. Refrain from demeaning, discriminatory or harassing behavior and speech. Be mindful of your surroundings and of your fellow participants. Alert meetup organizers if you notice a dangerous situation or someone in distress. Participate in an authentic and active way.

3. Unacceptable Behavior

Unacceptable behaviors include: intimidating, harassing, abusive, discriminatory, derogatory or demeaning conduct by any members of the Chicago Digital Accessibility & Inclusive Design Meetup and related events. All meetup venues may be shared with members of the public; please be respectful to all patrons of these locations.

Harassment includes: offensive verbal comments related to gender identification, sexual orientation, physical appearance, body size, age, disability, ethnicity or religion; inappropriate use of nudity and/or sexual images in public spaces (including presentation slides); deliberate intimidation, stalking or following; harassing photography or recording; sustained disruption of talks or other events; inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention.

4. Consequences Of Unacceptable Behavior

Unacceptable behavior will not be tolerated whether by other attendees, organizers, venue staff, sponsors, or other patrons of the helloA11Y Digital Accessibility & Inclusive Design Meetup venues.

Anyone asked to stop unacceptable behavior is expected to comply immediately.

If a participant engages in unacceptable behavior, the meetup organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, up to and including expulsion from the meetup community without warning or refund (if applicable).

5. What To Do If You Witness Or Are Subject To Unacceptable Behavior

If you are subjected to unacceptable behavior, notice that someone else is being subject to unacceptable behavior, or have any other concerns, please notify a meetup organizer as soon as possible.

The helloA11Y Digital Accessibility & Inclusive Design Meetup organizers will be available to help participants contact venue security or local law enforcement, to provide escorts, or to otherwise assist those experiencing unacceptable behavior to feel safe in the community.

6. Scope

We expect all meetup members, sponsors, volunteers, speakers, event attendees, and other guests to abide by this code of conduct at all venues and related social events.

7. Contact

8. Accommodation

The helloA11Y Digital Accessibility & Inclusive Design Meetup strives and is dedicated to be as inclusive and accessible as possible. To reach this goal, we take the following steps:

We’ve receive donations and sponsorship for Live Captions to be provided for all meet up events. Live captions are provided either on the individual’s device, via a URL to the caption feed, or projected onto a screen for all to digest, where available. Reserved front-row seating for those with wheelchair/mobility devices, hearing and/or vision issues. Venues are footed out for wheelchair-accessibility and have elevators. Service animals are welcome.
